Devon League E division west
Lewdown v Cockington
ON a scorching hot day, Lewdown entertained Cockington. Having lost the toss again, Lewdown were asked to field first in the heat.
Cockington started carefully, seeing off the opening bowlers; but with the introduction of Ade Edmonds things soon changed. Edmonds bowled with aggression and accuracy in taking 5 wickets.
Unfortunately, Lewdown?s other main bowlers were unable to make much impression on a good wicket. It was the introduction of part-time bowler Olly Brown, who took 3-10 in 4 overs, that restricted Cockington to 179-9. Lewdown bowled and fielded with good discipline.
Lewdown lost an early wicket in their run chase, and were unable to raise the pace against tight Cockington bowling. David Ball batted patiently for his 38; however, it was only Jack Skuse with 24 and Brenden Worth with 28 who were able to get a start.
The game petered out into a tame draw with Lewdown finishing on 130-7.
The game was notable for the amount of injuries; with a broken nose, broken big toe, dislocated finger and major black eye.
Lewdown 8 points drew with Cockington 14 points. Fortunately for Lewdown the top two teams in the league, Exeter Civil Service and Whitchurch both lost, and third placed Kingskerswell were on the end of a losing draw.
Next game, home versus Exeter Civil Service, Saturday and away to Kingskerswell, Sunday.
