AN injury to Mike Shopland forced the President's Day game at Bridestowe to end prematurely on Sunday.

The day started with the President's team winning the toss and putting Bridestowe into bat. Tight bowling by Paul Douglas (1 for 8 off 7 overs) and Martin Fryer (0 for 22 off 7) kept the runs down and frustrated the Bridestowe batsmen.

Father and son combination Phil and Barry Down took over the bowling - runs became easier but wickets also fell. Phil Down took 2 for 32 off 7 and Barry 4 for 28 off 6.

Mark Fogerty (18), Kevin Yates (24) and Chris Lavis (36) were the pick of the batsmen.

Bridestowe were all out for 154.

The President's team's battle against good seam bowling from Neil Griffiths (2-12) and Lee Jutson (0-9) and their failure to have the rub of the green meant the team was soon in trouble.

Spinners Stewart Down (2-27) and Andrew Yates (4-25) did the damage. Only Charlie Ewen (38) offered resistence.

Bridestowe finished on 90 for 9 being forced to retire after Mike Shopland was struck by the ball and suffered a facial injury requiring stitches.

During tea, sponsors and vice-presidents enjoyed hospitality provided by the club in gratitude for their support.
