AN East Cornwall mother of two is heading to London next month for a glittering awards ceremony after being named as an area finalist in the FSB WorldPay UK Business Awards 2014. Jodine Boothby, from Calstock, is the inventor of the Gummee Glove — a teething mitten for young babies too young to hold other teething toys. Jodine is ecstatic to be named as one of the top Micro Businesses of the Year. She said: 'This is an amazing honour. Back in 2011 I would never have thought that my invention to help my teething baby boy would have got me to where I am today! Gummee Glove now employs four people and we are selling teething mittens all over the world, it has been an incredibly exciting few years — hard work, but so worth it.' This is the latest in a string of awards for Jodine. Her first product, the Gummee Glove, has been in production for two years now. Her second product is due to be launched at the end of this month. She runs the business with her husband from their home in Calstock. Adrian Penter, Cornwall regional chairman of the awards and one of the judges in the South West panel, said: 'The FSB WorldPay UK Business Awards are designed to raise the profile of small businesses across the UK and to highlight the crucial role they play in supporting the economy. We've had more than 950 top quality entries this year and it's a great achievement for a small Cornish business to be selected as a category finalist.' Gummee Glove is one of four finalists in the South West region and one of 46 businesses in the running for business of the year. The national category winners will be announced on May 21 at the Hilton Wardolf in London.
