VALERIE McCarthey, proprietor of Greys, in Market Street, Tavistock, presents a cheque for £850 to Sylvia Arlett (left), Devon community fundraiser for Cancer Research UK for research into breast cancer.

The money, handed over at Greys last week, was raised at the Pink Ribbon Ball which Valerie oganised in Tavistock Town Hall last October.

The glittering event was attended by Tavistock mayor Norma Woodcock and her husband, Gerry.

During the evening Eric Drabble from Derriford Hospital spoke of his work as a breast surgeon, echoing how essential all research into breast cancer is.

?I would like to thank all the companies both local and national for their donations of raffle prizes, and everyone who so readily gave their time and talents to help make the evening a resounding success,? said Valerie.

The Pink Ribbon Ball will be held this year on October 16 at the Moorland Links Hotel.

Tickets, £25 per person, are available from Greys Special Occasion Wear 15-15a Market Street, Tavistock or phone (01822) 614790.
