OXFAM Bookshop in Tavistock has a brand new book on sale — one that has been created by the charity to celebrate crime writing. Oxfam has produced the new book, in conjunction with the Publisher Profile, called Oxcrimes. The paperback features 27 short stories by a cast of renowned crime writers, including Mark Billingham, Alexander McCall Smith, Anthony Horowitz, Val McDermid, Peter James, Adrian McKinty, Denise Mina and Louise Welsh, with a foreward written by Ian Rankin. Shop manager Val Sharpe said: 'We have a lot of shop space dedicated to fiction, and within this crime fiction is massive. 'There seems to be a never-ending stream of fantastic plots and areas of the human mind that crime fiction can cover. There are several volunteers who work here who are big "crimmies", real afficionados and happy to share their passion. 'The idea of short pieces or short stories is really interesting for this genre so we are hoping that all those crime fiction fans will be interested to give the book a go and maybe find a new author along the way. The book is unusual in the shop as it will sell as a new book, for £8.99, and we hope that here in Tavistock we can make a big contribution to Oxfam raising the £100,000 they hope for.'
