Carslberg South Western League Wadebridge Town 2 Callington Town 1 IN this encounter at an icy Bodieve Parc on Saturday Wadebridge hit back from what looked like a lost cause to defeat a quickly improving Callington. With the wind and slope in their favour in the first half, Wadebridge had much of the possession without really challenging Callington?s young keeper Adam Fuller who was deputising for the unavailable Vinnie Bowman. Chances were scarce at the other end as Mark Gears commanded his goal with only a deflected shot from Pete Floyd on 20 minutes to test his defence. The second period was a brighter affair and it was the visitors who began to create chances. On the hour, Lee Beer fed Lee Crook on the right and he cut the ball back from the byline to the advancing Pete Floyd who fired past Gears to give Callington the lead. Three minutes later Luke Avis Riordan created a further chance on the left but when the ball arrived at the feet of Beer he fired over the bar. With ten minutes to go, the referee awarded a free kick to the home side. From the resultant kick, the ball found Josh Insley who made the most of his good fortune. Worse was to follow for the visitors in the final minute of the 90 when another free kick was awarded for the home side. The free kick was hotly disputed, but was slid home to give Wadebridge the points. At the final whistle the home team were able to celebrate an unlikely victory while for the visitors, the annoyance at the decisions which cost them the game were countered by another improving performance overall. Cornish Guardian East Cornwall Premier League Callington Town 3 Wadebridge Town 3 CALLINGTON and Wadebridge shared the points in this pulsating game at Ginsters Marshfield Parc, but a draw was not really enough for either side as they compete for points for different reasons as the season reaches its climax. Matt Bolton gave the home side an early lead, but Mike Retter levelled shortly afterwards. Bolton again put Callington ahead with ten minutes to go before the break, only for Shaun White to respond to leave the scores level at the break. White gave the visitors the lead on the hour and they looked to be heading for all three points before Paul Lambert popped up to level matters with ten minutes to go. Jon Hake was denied a last-minute winner for Callington as his goalbound header was dramatically diverted wide by the Wadebridge keeper Dave Jones and both had to settle for a point apiece. Bodmin Trophies Duchy League division 2 Callington Town 0 Newmoor Rovers 0 CALLINGTON?S late charge up the league was checked slightly by Newmoor at the College Fields, but the point was enough to raise Town up another place to tenth. With top striker Nathan Dore suspended, it was 16 year old Kane Wilson who was tasked, along with Shane Richards, to continue the scoring and they did their best as the home side dominated much of this game. But Newmoor battled well and were the more satisfied of the two teams at the final whistle. Fixtures: Saturday, East Cornwall Premier v St Stephen (Ginsters Marshfield Parc) 2.30pm.
