A MAJOR programme of replacement and enhancement of the toilet facilities at lakes and reservoirs owned by South West Lakes Trust has been announced. The improvements, which will take around five years to complete, will aim to meet the main criteria demanded by visitors: a high standard of cleanliness, well-maintained inside and out, good signage, and with baby changing at key sites. Burrator, Roadford Lake and the Lakeside Restaurant and function suite will be among those benefiting from the £135,000 programme. The new toilets and handwashing facilities will use materials and technology to minimise impact on the environment where possible. This will include sustainable timber for windows and doors, coreless loo rolls, no- paint walls and floors, and electric hand driers will replace paper towels. Electricity usage will be minimised by fitting low energy light-bulbs and sensor lighting. Water consumption will be reduced through use of 'hippos' in the cisterns, spray taps and controlled urinal flushing.
