MAJOR improvement works are to be carried out at Tavistock Bus Station.
The work, beginning on February 14, will see the station completely resurfaced, and alterations made to improve access for buses, as well as improving the pedestrian areas.
The pedestrian areas will remain open, but buses will pick up and drop off passengers in the bays outside the Bedford Hotel, and on the opposite side of the road, by the church in Plymouth Road.
The work is a joint project by West Devon Borough and Devon County councils.
Cllr Robert Sampson, chairman of West Devon's environment and communities committee, said: 'This scheme will resolve a number of significant difficulties with the current bus station layout, drainage issues and some problems with subsidence.
'The scheme results from excellent partnership working with the county council and although there will be some disruption in the interim, once works are complete the area will be significantly improved.'
Cllr Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: 'These changes have been brought about to improve the quality of the bus station environment. This scheme will make a real difference to passengers and should improve safety and the overall experience for the travelling public.'
Works are expected to last until Easter.
