MOUNT House School at Tavistock has just reached the end of a £1-million refurbishment programme, which has brought significant improvements to many aspects of school activity. In addition to new science laboratories and a new art block, the library and many of the classrooms have been updated, and the sports facilities significantly upgraded. In the boys? boarding area, bathrooms have undergone a complete re-design and dormitories have been redecorated and re-carpeted. The new, modern bunk beds can be configured in a variety of ways, allowing an individual layout in each dormitory. The common rooms too have been re-styled to create more homeliness and individuality. Mount House headmaster Jim Massey said: ?In organising our school, our starting point is giving the children a rich childhood experience. ?They spend as much of their working week outside the classroom as they do in it, so we need to take as much care in planning their living conditions and non-curricular activities as we do with their academic life. ?We are providing comfortable, modern boarding facilities, and arranging out-of-school-hours activities that are challenging, stimulating and entertaining. ?Our broad syllabus exceeds the demands of the National Curriculum, but what the children learn through shared childhood experiences outside the classroom is every bit as important for their future.?
