MEMBERS of Tavistock Athletics Club who have taken part in Devon County Championship races were presented with their medals last week.

In the Half Marathon Championship, held in Bideford, Jo Meek, one of the fastest female runners in the club, received a silver medal. Nicole Heryet (second female 35+) was also a silver medal winner, and Gill Court, winner of the F50+ category received gold.

Jo, Nicole and Gill were also first ladies' team for the race, the first time the club has ever won this award. In the same race, Tony Symons was presented with a bronze medal for being third M45, as was Keith Bowles, third M60.

Tony, Neil Barkell, Chris Champion and Rupert Warren were awarded with silver medals for being second mens' team, and Tony, Chris and Rupert also won second vet mens' team.

In the 10K Championships, held at Bampton, Jo Meek won a gold for winning first lady, and Tony Symons received silver for his second M45 place.

Finally, in the Off-Road Championships, Tony Symons again excelled, winning silver as second male, and a gold for first M45.

These 12 medals, added to the five won at Plymouth Hoe 10, gives a total of 17 county championship awards, putting TAC very near the top of the medal winners – a huge achievement for a relatively small club.
