DARTMOOR?s ancient woodland can be explored this weekend as part of a free guided walk arranged by the Dartmoor National Park Authority.
The walk takes place in magnificent upland oakwood at Dendles, near Cornwood, and will provide an opportunity to learn about how this important habitat is managed by the national park authority.
The guided walk will be led by Rupert Lane, the authority?s head of trees and woodland, this Sunday, October 13.
Walkers are asked to meet at the surfaced car park ? OS grid ref SX 601 601 ? 100 metres north of the entrance to Delamore House, on Heathfield Down, near Cornwood village.
There will be a short minibus ride to the woodlands as there will be no parking close to the woodland gate.
The walk starts at 10am and finishes at about 2pm. Please bring a packed lunch.
On Wednesday, October 30, a guided walk in the Wray Valley, near Lusteigh looking for acorns, which will eventually be planted back in the same woodland, takes place.
Both events are linked to Seed Gathering Sunday, a national event organised by the Tree Council and sponsored by the Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment which is providing free apple juice drinks and seed gathering cartons for those taking part.
For further information about the Dartmoor events, contact Rupert Lane, on 01626 832093.
