IT was sad to hear on the local news that a few people have lost their dogs from their homes.

A lady interviewed on television thought that if someone finds a lost dog they ought to knock on nearby doors and try to find out where it belonged, but there are several reasons why people won't or can't do this.

Microchips are important but an identity tag on the collar is a legal requirement and means anyone finding a dog can alert the owner immediately by phone or take it to the correct house.

Spending a few pounds on a dog tag can save you a lot of heartache and cash if the dog has been taken many miles to a dog pound to be scanned to see if it's microchipped, and detained until claimed.
