RESIDENTS of Winkleigh and the surrounding villages have been invited by Torridge District Council to put forward their ideas on the future of Winkleigh Airfield.

A set of possible options for the site will be exhibited at Winkleigh Community Centre on Saturday, April 25 from 10am to 5pm, where representatives from Torridge and the design team will be on hand to answer questions.

The focus of the development options is to encourage a new approach to rural employment, which will be sustainable and well designed.

The meeting will look at proposals for restoring the landscape and improving public access to the site.

Residents' feedback at the meeting will allow the council to identify a preferred option of the future development of the airfield.

They will look at ideas to improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of the area.

Community and voluntary groups, local branches of national organisations, parish and town councils, neighbourhood forums, residents and tenants' associations, are all welcome to come along to the meeting to express their views.

Community planning and development manager for Torridge District Council, Maria Bailey, said: 'It is essential that any proposals for the development on the airfield are progressed with in conjuction with the local community.

'A first round of consultations has led to the production of a number of options.

'We are now going back out to the community so they can have their say and we will then use this information to draw up a preferred option over the summer.'

The former RAF airfield was built during world war two and was used by the British, American, Norwegian and Polish airforce.

The deadline for submitting proposals to Torridge is Friday, May 8.
