I THINK it was BT who claimed 'it's good to talk'. I would take that further by saying it is also good to listen.
In response to Cllr Jenkins letter (October 2) I feel that he is being a little prickly when in fact we are both looking toward the same goal, that of enhancing facilities in the town.
I do in fact recall an amicable meeting to discuss the Trim Trail and I also recall that we were to have further contact which never occurred. Of course, the councillor had no obligation to involve myself or anyone else in the project. However, I feel confident in saying that I fully understand the concept of exercise trails and their role in the overall framework of sport and leisure.
My initial letter outlined my personal views regarding the trail in the Meadows, a right I defend. Is it not views and opinions which in fact elected the councillor to serve the community in a democratic process?
I will concede that the matting has been improved. However, I could not on a visit today find a start/finish warm up and cool down area, and in general there is a lack of clarity and direction.
In conclusion I stand by my original view that the facility could have been so much better and I wholeheartedly apologise if this rankles with Cllr Jenkins' contrary views.
