I AGREE with D White (Times, February 13) that cyclists should not ride three abreast (illegal) or even two when to do so would inconvenience other traffic, or on pavements (which should not be parked on by motorists either).

Concerning his other comments let me assure him I am no up and coming, lycra-clad, head-down  Wiggo but rather a down and going, sit-up-and-beg, 73-year-old tandemist who has never worn a stitch of lycra in his strictly non-competitive cycling life of about 50,000 miles.

Incidentally, I do make use of Drake's Trail and other cycle routes when (a) they go where I want to go and (b) have a surface suitable for a tandem.
