OKEHAMPTON Town Council is appealing to residents to let it know of areas of land which they would wish to be kept as green amenity spaces.

The move comes after the council failed to retain an area of land adjacent to the link road as an open space, and the subsequent lifting of a covenant, which restricted the development of the land.

Members of the council's planning committee decided at a subsequent meeting that they would continue to do all they could to oppose any future unwanted infill development of open spaces in Okehampton.

Cllr Maureen McDonald, committee chairman, said: 'Unfortunately the campaign was not successful and I am therefore requesting that residents who know of areas of land to make us aware of these.

'It will help us in our aim to retain vital breathing spaces within our town.

'Our powers are limited, but it will be useful to know the views of the community on this matter when commenting on future planning applications.'
