THE people of West Devon are being invited to give their views on how they would like to see the borough develop over the next 20 years. The Government has recently introduced a new system to replace the Local Plan which will now be known as the Local Development Framework. The Framework is made up of a series of documents and the first of these are now being prepared and will be published on Thursday June 23. The documents include an outline of the opportunities the community will have to be involved in the planning process and seek the views of local people on the issues facing West Devon over the next 20 years and possible strategies for addressing them. A planning road show will be visiting areas of West Devon later this month and in early July. Cllr Margaret Garton, chairman of the council?s future planning and housing committee, said: ?The road shows will not be events where the council explains its proposals. ?Instead they will enable the public to discuss with each other and with council staff a number of issues that communities in West Devon will face in the next few years ? so it is important that everyone gets involved in these vital early stages.? All documents will be available at local libraries and the borough council?s offices at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock and Oaklands Drive in Okehampton. They can also be read on the council website at http://www.westdevon.gov.uk">www.westdevon.gov.uk The road shows are all being held from 2pm to 7pm at: l Hatherleigh Parish Hall on Tuesday June 28 l Bere Alston Parish Church Hall on Wednesday June 29 l Tavistock Parish Church Centre on Thursday June 30 l Lifton Parish Hall on Tuesday July 5 l North Tawton Primary School Hall on Wednesday July 6 l Okehampton Charter Hall on Thursday July 7 For further information contact Chris Dunford, Principal Planning Policy Officer, on 01822 813691.
