LEWDOWN picked up 27 points over the double weekend after games away to Exeter South and Newton St Cyres.

Having lost the toss, Exeter South elected to bat on a good wicket. At 48-4, Lewdown were bowling well and had the home team in trouble.

Exeter?s opening bat and captain then came together and put on a sixth wicket stand of 168, which was not broken until the last over. Ade Edmonds bowled with pace and aggression for his 4 wickets, otherwise Lewdown?s bowling and fielding discipline was disappointing, allowing Exeter to reach 223 for 6. Lewdown always fancied reaching the target, and at 126-2, with 20 overs to go were in prime position.

Unfortunately, Lewdown?s usually reliable middle order were not able to finish the game, and the match ended in a tame draw, with Lewdown scoring 176-8.

Olly Brown maintained his good form with a fine 62 and the ever reliable Dean Summersby with 34 were the main run scorers for Lewdown.

On a hot Sunday, Lewdown lost the toss again against Newton St Cyres. The home team scoring 145-9 in their 46 overs, with Charlie Hughes taking 4-37 and Greg Sleep 2-17.

Lewdown hit the winning runs with 8 overs and 4 wickets to spare. Jack Skuse, back from University, scored a fine 34 and Charlie Hughes finished the match with 36 n.o. A fine effort over a very hot weekend.
