TWO junior members of Tavistock Company of Archers battled their way to the top in the Devon Challenge.
Ashley Cackett, 13, and Ben James, 12, (pictured right) were the two outstanding juniors who had a successful week, winning all four individual shoots and their overall categories for the week - many senior archers had to give in to the hot weather.
The event, held at Muscovey (Liskeard)-Tavistock-Elmtree (Holsworthy) and Torquay, saw the biggest entry for many years with 144 archers attending midweek shoots and 160 attending weekend shoots.
It attracted archers from all over the UK and Europe.
The courses started hilly for the first two days but by the time the archers had moved on to Tavistock they found the going flatter but more challenging.
This year's National Field Archery Championships are being held at Bovey Tracey and Ashley Cackett is hoping to carry his good form forward to this event.
