WALKHAM Valley Cricket Club played host to the Wombats, a touring side from Somerset at their ground in Walkhampton on Saturday.

Walkham elected to bat first and on a rain soaked wicket found runs very hard to come by.

Accurate bowling and unpredictable bounces kept the Walkham score down to 92 all out after 22 overs.

Andy Rogers with 31 and Richard Berry with 25 were the only respectable Walkham batsmen.

Confident of an easy win the visitors were predicting an early finish, however Walkham had other ideas.

Very accurate bowling and excellent fielding kept the Wombats scoring rate well down.

As the wickets fell, a Walkham win now seemed possible and a nail biting finish was on the cards. In the 27th over, the visitors were all out for 87, five runs short of the Walkham total.

The father and son combination of John and Richard Berry did the damage with a total of 7 wickets for only 22 runs.

All the other Walkham bowlers bowled well and not a single catch was dropped in the field.

Man of the match was Andy Rogers for his score of 31 and two superb catches taken at mid wicket.
