THE Burrator Horseshoe Run took place on Saturday, June 21 in what a competitor described as 'pretty grim' conditions. The seven mile moorland run is part of the Meavy Oak Fair and started and finished on Meavy village green. Runners had to negotiate Dartmoor, Burrator Reservoir, Sheepstor summit, Gutter Tor summit, Ringmoor Down and Meavy River ford in less than ideal weather conditions, making the scenic route less appreciable than usual. The first three home from a total record entry of over 120 runners were all members of Tavistock Athletic Club. First was Jim Cole in a time of 42.09. Second was Tom Lawson, who was also the first Junior to finish, in 43.24. Close on his heels was Adam Holland in 43.4. The first lady home and also the first female 45+ veteran was Jennie Kingdon in a time of 50.24. Second and third were Helen Smith and Rowena Melbourne. Other results were: first male 45 plus Chris Eastaugh; first male 50 plus Hans Thompson; first male 55+ Robin Musgrave; first local female and 50+ Bonny Collingbourne; first local male Colin Brownlee; first male 60 plus Austin Donleavy; first female 60 plus Mary Sergeant. The award for the wettest finisher went to Zoe Moore. All runners were presented with souvenir T shirts.
