Bere Alston United 3
Sticker 3
Bere Alston went through a series of emotions as they trailed, led and finally had to settle for a draw in this evenly contested encounter.
There wasn't much between the sides in the first 20 minutes with Darren Smalley and Zac Beesley going close to giving Bere the lead and both Frankie McEvoy and Chris Kitson having good efforts for Sticker.
Then, with Bere's Lee Howells still feeling the effects of a collision with Sticker's Andy Avery, Chris Kitson took advantage and unleashed a powerful drive past Craig Howells to put the visitors in front.
Will Westlake then squandered a great chance to level matters when he burst through the Sticker defence but shot narrowly wide.
The injured for Bere Lee Howells was replaced by Mark Claridge and they were caught napping when Alex Woodcock skipped past Jason Clancy and although his effort was well saved by Craig Howells, Sticker's Chris Kitson bounced for the rebound.
It then became one way traffic and Bere were hanging on, but they were given a lifeline when Darren Smalley latched on to a Warren Daw pass to slip the ball past the advancing Sticker keeper and send Bere in 2-1 down at the break.
Bere came out a different side in the second half and were soon level when Dan Follett took advantage of some slack defending to latch onto a long clearance from Mark Claridge before lobbing the Sticker keeper for a cool finish.
Bere's tails were now up and with 20 minutes to go they went in front when Zac Beesley's long free kick was bravely headed in at the far post by substitute Mike Curtis despite taking a bang in the face.
However, Bere's delight was short lived, when from their next attack Sticker's Frankie McEvoy was fouled in the box by Mark Claridge. Chris Kitson's spot-kick was brilliantly saved by Craig Howells only for Kitson to react quickest to stab the ball home for his hat-trick.
In the final 15 minutes, both teams had chances to win but in the end a draw was a fair result and sees Bere increase their good run to one defeat in 11.
• Bere Alston are away to Bodmin on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
