Tavistock 10

Honiton 13

TAVISTOCK, playing down the slope first half, started well against formidable opposition. Tavistock attacked with a good chase and catch by Andy Hunt.

The Moorlanders had Honiton camped in their 22 but frustratingly were unable to find their way over the try-line. A penalty was awarded in front of the posts, but Tavistock's young kicker and fly half Josh Sutton had a bad day when it came to place kicking.

Another blow was dealt to Tavistock when captain Matt Cole went off with an injury after only ten minutes, leaving Sean Buttle holding the reins.

The first half was dominated by the Moorlanders and the pressure finally told when scrum-half Buttle chipped and chased his own kick and with a little luck of the bounce went over for the first try. Unfortunately, it was not converted.

Honiton replied with an attack that led to a penalty which they converted. They turned around at half-time: Tavistock 5 Honiton 3.

In the second half Tavistock again looked the better side but just lacked the killer instinct. But they were next to score with a try from centre Barney Dunston after good mauling work from the pack.

The game was in the palm of Tavistock's hand and they should have finished it off with another score. It was not to be and Honiton were given a lifeline when they scored their first try.

The Moorlanders suffered again when flanker and lineout jumper Darren Cole injured his shoulder. Tavistock continued the fight and had victory in their sights when Honiton attacked in the last two minutes and their winger scored in the corner.

Tavistock wil have to pick themselves up and dust off before this week's cup and league double header at home to Tamar Saracens 2.30pm kick-off. Every league point is valuable as the number of points up for grabs shrinks.
