Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 4 Okehampton 0 THE game opened with Tavistock being the dominant team. The ball was crossed into the ?D? and it was Hannah Gray who scored the first goal. When the ball was played around the half-way line Susannah Boulle and Sarah Barratt were there to stop the ball being a threat. Laura Stapleton and Fiona Dunn worked well in defence and blocked out nearly every single attack. The odd time Okehampton did break through, Zoe Viggers made some excellent saves to keep the score sheet clean. Boulle pushed up for the short corners and was able to score from one of them. Firth battled well and linked with Dunn and Butler to put pressure on the Okehampton GK who did play very well. Boulle scored the third goal of the match and with Armstrong really outwitting the opponents it was not long before she scored taking the final score to 4-0 to Tavistock. Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 3 Teignmouth ...2 THIS Devon cup match opened with both teams battling for possession. Robynne Honey played well on the wing and with Emma White back on the pitch these two battled well to gain possession of the ball. Sarah Barratt worked well with Susannah Boulle and this is definitely becoming a partnership which is a real threat to the opposition. With speed and agility on Tavistock?s side it was not long before the ball was taken into the ?D? by Barratt who scored the first goal of the match. This lifted the team?s spirits and Tavistock really put Teignmouth under pressure. Hannah Gray battled well on the wing and an excellent ball across from Honey allowed Gray to score the second goal. Laura Armstrong was working well on the pitch and when Lisa Butler came onto play these players were up for scoring some goals. It was through their perseverance and some excellent hitting from Laura Stapleton that the ball entered the ?D? and Gray scored again, taking the score at half-time to 3-0. The opposition played better in the second half and tried to get some early goals but goalkeeper, Bex Creasy, made some excellent saves which prevented these goals. However, Teignmouth were awarded two short corners and scored from both off them. When another short corner was awarded Tavistock knew they were going to have to be out quick. Dunn cleared the ball with a timely tackle and Tavistock became the dominant team again. Tavistock now go forward to the next round. Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 5 Totnes 3 THE game started with Tavistock having to defend more than expected in the early stages. Julia Firth had the ball in the ?D? and was tackled but she kept strong and won the ball and slipped it to Honey who slotted it neatly past the goalkeeper. Laura Stapleton and Fiona Dunn were working hard to block the ball from being switched across the pitch. Babs Horton stopped goal scoring opportunities from happening as she marked key players out of the game. Barratt had a run up the pitch and was able to slip into the ?D? and put a shot past the keeper. Totnes were quick to retaliate and scored from their first short corner. Tavistock knew they needed some early goals in the second half and it was Stapleton who scored from a short corner that pushed Tavistock back in the lead. Totnes seemed to break through and an early shot at goal scored them their next goal. Bex Creasy, in goal, was playing really well and despite these goals going in it could have been worse had she not made some excellent saves. Firth kept battling and scored the next goal for Tavistock taking the score to 4-2. In the second half Armstrong had the ball and dodged around the defenders and walloped the ball into the goal. All the Tavistock players kept their position and despite Totnes scoring another goal they could never catch Tavistock up in terms of the goal score line and the speed of the Tavistock players on the pitch. The final score was 5-3 to Tavistock, a well deserved victory. Captain, Fiona Dunn, has been really impressed with the team?s commitment this week as many players have played in three matches. This week Tavistock are at home at Bickleigh Barracks with a 12.30pm push back against Plym Valley.
