THE Okehampton branch of the Devonshire Association begin their new year programme next week with an Okehampton history quiz. The branch held three interesting meetings during the autumn. First, they gained an insight into volunteering for the National Trust through member Miss Joan Childs' talk about assisting at Castle Drogo. Mike Perrian came along with a superbly illustrated talk on ancient trackways which emphasised local ancient routes around Dartmoor. Dr Tom Greeves brought slides of Dartmoor past for his talk on historic images, most of which none of the audience had ever seen before. After the Christmas break, the branch resumes on Thursday, January 25, with an Okehampton history quiz overseen by Paul Rendell. This is the third year the association has arranged a local quiz with Paul and the evening gets underway at 7.30pm in the Ockment Centre. New programmes for 2007 branch activities will be available and non-members are welcome at all events.
