AN iconic and innovative vehicle which was a familiar sight in the 1940s will be on display this weekend at the Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton. The ?Showtrac? was a special truck for Fairground Showman by Scammell of Watford. Only 18 were produced, six of which were sold to showmen in Devon and Cornwall. Anderton and Rowland, the Whitelegg?s and J Rowland fairs all used these classic British trucks to haul and generate power for their rides. Five of the vehicles are still in the West, and at least three will be on display at the centre this Saturday (September 8) and Sunday. The event will commence with an introduction by George DeVey, Showtrac owner and partner in the fairground firm of Anderton and Rowlands. A road run will take leave the centre at Lifton and travel to Okehampton Railway Station.
