THERE were mixed fortunes for two West Devon rally drivers last weekend in the Newton Abbot Audi Rally, which saw 42 cars cover 22 stages through the forest of Dartmoor and Haldon Forest.

Yelverton?s Jon Richardson managed to secure an overall position of ninth, and third place in the historic car class.

He was partnered by Plymouth?s Russell Spry in a Mark 1 Escort V8. Electrical problems on day 1 cost them about two minutes and a possible top five place.

Chris Jarman, from Tavistock, and Callington?s Adrian Brown, were the victims of misfortune when the suspension of their Subaru Impreza broke.

They were forced to retire from a commanding top ten position after stage seven.

The two-day event was organised by the South Hams Motor Club.
