The event, on Wednesday October 7, will include tours of the house and an introduction to the new 'Work In Progress Museum' set up to document the restoration and conservation of the historic mansion. This will create a permanent record of the house as it was, along with artefacts, images and plans of the restoration work and the final results.
After over 900 years of continuous occupation by the Kelly family as a family home, the doors of Kelly House are soon to be opened to the public for the first time in a variety of exciting ways – including Family Fun days, private tours, Arts and Crafts workshops and selected 'Join the Family' dinners and celebrations.
The Kelly family's aim is to increase interest in the property and highlight the extensive ongoing renovation and conservation work being carried out.
Having conducted a small number of 'invitation only' and privately organised tours of Kelly House, Warin and his wife Elizabeth will welcome members of the public on a selection of dates throughout 2010. Guests will be conducted on a tour of the fantastic reception rooms, and have the opportunity to discuss the ongoing restoration and conservation work.
Following the success of a Teddy Bear's Picnic earlier this year, the house will again host small family events next summer. There will be storytelling, garden games, and a treasure hunt, with a 'Patrick the Pirate' story written specially for each occasion. All ages will be welcome.
Warin Kelly is a stained glass artist, with more than 20 years experience and many private and public commissions to his name.
Workshops are being arranged for visitors to learn some of the fine skills required to design and build stained glass panels, mirror surrounds, or light catcher. The workshops will include tea and coffee and lunch, and finished artwork will be available for collection shortly after completion.
