FOR many years Okehampton Town Council have proclaimed enormous pride in the fact that the charter granted to the town in 1623 and the right to run a market granted provenance that was a credit, and now with the ?wave of a hand? that and the associated heritage is dismissed. Should not the council therefore now change the name of the Charter Hall and merely call it something like the Okement Entertainment Complex? With a cinema and the hall itself with its stage it would be an ideal venue where the council meetings could be held, and a revue held each Christmas would be equal to any pantomine. I suggest this name as I am sure no past civic dignitary would countenance their name being used in some sort of memorial. Derek Godfrey-Brown Larkbeare Okehampton
