AN Okehampton-based charity is continuing to support and help residents in and around the town, by offering a range of facilities for the over 50s.
Chief officer for Age Concern Okehampton and Torridge (ACOT), Barrie Duke, gave a talk at last week's town council meeting to highlight the services the independent charity provides.
The organisation, based in Okehampton for the last 17 years, is one of the smallest in the UK.
The team of 12, mostly volunteers, provide services of support, ranging from pension and benefit advice to prisoners on Dartmoor, to internet and computer training for those who want to get up to date with the internet.
Mr Duke said: 'The Silver Surfers session is a taster day for those who don't feel confident using a computer or the internet.
'After the session, we then look at arranging regular training for people, which has proved really worthwhile.'
'We also have a facility based at Okehampton Hospital for people who want to get their toenails and nails trimmed.
'They don't necessarily have to have problems with their toenails, but sometimes it's those hard to reach areas which are an issue.'
