A 12-YEAR-old Callington Community College student, who will later this month embark on his second charity walk to help a school in India, has received a £300 boost.

Jonny Burnard was last Saturday presented with cheques from Callington Rotary Club and Callington Twinning Association at the St Piran's Day celebrations in the town hall.

Later this month Jonny, who lives in Callington, will walk approximately 50 miles from the college to Guipavas School in France, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of twinning between Callington and Guipavas.

In April 2010 the youngster walked the Cornish Coastal Path over three days, raising £800 which enabled 32 children to have a year's education and a start in life.

Once again Jonny will be helping the Dr Ambedkar Charitable Trust, a charity-run school in Northern India, for extremely poor children who would not normally get the chance of education.

He and his father Andy have obtained free passage across the Channel from Brittany Ferries and are in talks with the International Committee from Callington Community College which is supporting Jonny's bid and may join him on the final day's walk.

Under the banner School 2 School 4 School, Jonny, Andy and a teacher from Torpoint School, Phil Ramsell, will leave from the college on March 30 and plan to arrive at Guipavas School in Brittany on April 2.

Andy said his son felt he would like to do one more walk to give these children the same opportunity of an education that he gets.

'He has chosen to carry out this walk this spring before he gets involved in exams, and this time has brought several other organisations on board,' he said.

'It's a really special thing he's doing, off his own bat, for those poor children in India. He really feels for them and I am proud of him.'
