FACEBOOK users are being asked to get creative and help police to write a poem in the lead up to Valentine's Day.
Following the launch of the Devon and Cornwall Police 'Is This Love?' Facebook campaign, users of the social networking site are being asked to contribute a line of poetry a day — not for a typical Valentine's poem but one about domestic abuse.
The police began the poem on Friday with the line 'It is known as the silent crime' and hope Facebook users will suggest the next line. From the responses each day a line will be chosen and added to the poem until the poem reaches ten lines.
Detective Superintendent John Clements said: 'We wanted to encourage as many people as possible to interact with the Facebook page and creating a poem, which will be published for Valentine's Day, is a perfect way and very appropriate to mark the day.
'We know many people are affected by domestic abuse, and a recent report showed that young people also experience abuse in their relationships.
'Using Facebook is helping us reach a young audience and inform them about what is good and bad in relationships, as well as give them information about help and support available.'
