THE Exeter and Mid Devon branch of Samaritans this week issued a reminder that their 24-hours a day service will continue to be open right the way through the Christmas period.

Samaritans believe the festive time of year, while eagerly anticipated by many, can be particularly hard for those going through difficulties in their personal lives.

A Samaritans spokesman said: ?The social pressure to have a good time and all the emphasis on playing happy families can make life seem unbearable.

?No-one need ever feel alone with their problems. To be given a sympathetic hearing, in strictest confidence, by someone not directly involved in the situation, may be all that is needed to begin to see a way forward again.?

The Samaritans service can be accessed 24-hours a day, seven days a week by telephone, e-mail, letter or by dropping into the branch at 10 Richmond Road, Exeter.
