A JACOBSTOWE charity is appealing to the public to help them buy up to 25 cows.
The Gilead Foundation, a Christian organisation which helps and trains people who have been through a variety of crises, has had to give back their herd of 100 cows as the rental on them became too high.
Now Gilead is trying to build up its own, organic, herd of cattle.
Tim Drew said: 'We have already been given some money and we went and bought two cows last week.
'About six or seven years ago we did a similar thing to establish a flock of sheep.'
Each cow is likely to cost about £325, but will produce £1,000 worth of milk which can be retailed by the charity, providing it with a net £300 a year.
The foundation has the grass, silage, buildings and workers to produce the milk — they just need the cows.
The appeal has gone out to thousands of people all over the country with the most recent edition of the foundation's news letter.
'We've had quite a number of people talking to us about it already,' said Tim.
Anyone who would like to help the Gilead Foundation build up its herd should contact Tim or Jo Drew on 01837 861138.
