A WEST Devon runner is taking a well-earned rest after successfully completing the London Marathon in aid of a hearing charity.
Jackie Moir, 63, from Yelverton, achieved her long-held ambition by finishing the marathon in six hours and 13 minutes.
As well as putting in lots of training to be able to complete the 26 mile course, Jackie had the additional challenge of raising £2,000 for her chosen charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Jackie said: 'I decided it was now or never, and the extra push came from my daughter, who also took part this year.
'I have had to fit my fundraising activities around an intensive training regime, which has been really hard work but a lot of fun.
'I have held a collection on the Torpoint Ferry, a quiz night, a barn dance and a lunch for friends. I'd really like to thank everyone who has helped or contributed as I couldn't have done it without them.'
Janine Sargent, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People's community fundraising manager, said: 'We are hoping that Jackie's story will inspire other people to help us by taking on a personal challenge of their own.
We can't all be marathon runners but perhaps a 5k fun run is more your thing, a swimathon or even a slimathon!'
