A WHITCHURCH student has been celebrating exceptional results in her GCSEs after recording ten A* grades and one A grade.

Helen Jenks, a former pupil at Whitchurch Primary School, now attends St Dunstan's Abbey School in Plymouth.

Her achievement is all the more remarkable as she took one of her subjects a year early, and gained an A* in statistics, which is an unusual course to take at GCSE level.

Helen will now study biology, chemistry and maths in St Dunstan's sixth form, and is hoping to go on to university to study medicine.

Helen has just returned from an arduous four-day trek in the Scottish Highlands for her Duke of Edinburgh gold award, having previously completed the Ten Tors challenge.

She is also a youth leader in the 4th Tavistock Guides and a ranger with Bere Alston Guides.

She is a member of the TEEM youth group at St Andrew's Church in Whitchurch.
