A MERRIVALE sportswoman has qualified for the modern pentathlon junior world championship, being held in Athens next month.
Heather Fell, 20, will travel to the Greek capital on September 8 as part of a four-strong Great Britain team following her selection last week.
Heather, who also competes in the tetrathlon, has had an injury-prone year and is pleased to have qualified through good general performances. She has only competed in the pentathlon, which includes running, shooting, fencing, riding and swimming, for a couple of years.
Last weekend she took second place at the tetrathlon national championship at Moreton Morrell in Warwickshire.
She said: ?I had one stop in the ride and it cost me 60 penalties, the equivalent of 15 seconds, but I just didn?t have room for that mistake. Everything else went really well.?
Heather, who trains at the Bath centre of excellence with Tavistock Olympic bronze medal holder Kate Allenby, recently came first in the UK Pony Club tetrathlon regions competition in North Yorkshire, helping the South West team, which included Tamsin Barrington from Holsworthy, to victory.
