BOOTS the Chemists opened its revamped Okehampton store this Monday as part of the company?s £70m Heartbeat Programme to improve stores nationwide. Workers completed the refurbishment overnight during the weekend and through Sunday, so that essential pharmacy services were not disrupted. The store now has improved dispensing facilities along with a general refreshment of the décor, branding and fixtures and fittings. Boots say the Heartbeat programme is about ensuring the stores continue to provide essential services to the community, in a modern retail environment. Boots director of healthcare Alex Gourlay said: ?These are often small stores in high streets and communities that have been abandoned by other retailers for out of town retail parks. ?We chose the name ?Heartbeat? because of the location of the stores in the heart of the community and the life they often give these declining streets. ?We hope our investment in the store means we can offer even more to existing and new customers in Okehampton for years to come.?
