MRS Jean Boardman, British Heart Foundation local representative, is pictured receiving a cheque for £417.55 from Mrs D M Stephens of South Zeal (left).

The donation was in memory of Mrs Stephens? husband who had rheumatic heart disease and underwent cardiac surgery three times.

It is through donations such as this that the British Heart Foundation can fund research into the cause of heart disease, provide specialist nurses to give after-care for patients with heart problems and those who have undergone cardiac surgery.

The foundation also helps to provide defibrillators (heart start equipment) to local medical centres and fire stations.

The British Heart Foundation was founded in 1961 and is working to fund research so that heart disease can be eradicated.

However, much still needs to be done and donations are always welcome. Please contact Mrs Boardman on 01837 82616i if you can help with organising fund-raising events or wish to send a donation.
