BERE Ferrers Parish Council is pleased to announce that a new defibrillator unit for public use is now available in Bere Alston.
The unit has been obtained through a grant from The Town and Parish Fund and has been installed on the front wall of the public toilets in Station Road.
The defibrillator is a portable self-contained emergency device to help victims of a heart attack (cardiac arrest), by administering one or more brief electric shocks interspersed with heart massage. Anybody can use the device – after first calling an ambulance – by removing it from its cabinet and transporting it to the victim, then following the audible instructions. The unit will automatically check whether the victim is suitable for treatment, and will not deliver the shocks if the victim is unsuitable.
The unit will be owned and maintained by the Parish Council, who gratefully acknowledges the contribution by Bere Alston Trekkers (BAT) towards the installation costs.
If you have any questions or see any vandalism to the unit please contact the Parish Council.
