PUPILS and Staff at St Andrew's C of E Primary School in Buckland Monachorum recently welcomed a new head teacher.
Julie Tailyour was appointed as the head after a unanimous decision by representatives from the Diocese, the local authority and all 12 governors, following a rigourous process which involved two days of intense tasks and interviews.
Mrs Tailyour said: 'I was originally appointed at St Andrew's in September 1994 as the reception class teacher, having previously worked in a Cornish primary school.
'In January 2009 I was appointed to the post of deputy headteacher. I am now delighted to have been appointed as the new head teacher.
'St Andrew's has always been a school which cares for and nurtures its pupils. I wish to continue and enhance this principle and look forward to working with pupils, staff, parents and governors and seeing the school move forward with continuing success.'
Chair of governors Graham Cotter said: 'Mrs Tailyour has provided new vision and direction for the school during her time as acting head.
'She has also recently led the school through an outstanding SIAS inspection.
'She has achieved her National Professional Qualification for Head Teachers and we are confident that she will lead the school forward in an inspirational way and with great dynamism.'
