KELLY 1st XI entertained the Headmasters? XI on June 8. The Headmasters? team was mainly made up of headmasters from schools throughout Devon and Cornwall, including Paul Smith from Truro and Nick Folland, former Somerset and Devon star, from Blundells. The Headmasters? team won the toss and decided to bat first. Mark Steed opened the batting, after a brief flurry of runs he was bowled by Koranteng for 10. This brought Smith to the wicket, to join Alcock, who together put on 80 for the second wicket. When Smith was bowled for 39, also by Koranteng, Folland came to the wicket and gave a master class in batting scoring 64 runs with shots all around the wicket. The Headmaster declared with his team on 202 for 8, Koranteng and O Thomas bowling well, taking 4 wickets each. The Kelly innings started disastrously with both openers Webb and Johnston failing to open their account. R Thomas and Koranteng added 40 for the third wicket and F Frost and J Hare added 60 runs for the sixth wicket, Frost top scoring with 3. But once they were both out the innings subsided to 131 all out giving victory to the Headmasters? XI. 1st XI vs Exeter School Eexter were visitors to Kelly on June 11. Exeter batted first, declaring on 192 for 6, R Thomas and O Thomas both taking two wickets for the home side. Kelly found runs extremely hard to come by against the fast and acurate Exeter bowling. Kelly?s batsmen showing great resolve and sound technique, managed to bat out the innings ensuring a deserved draw.
