THIS August may have been one of the wettest in recent memory but that has not stopped tourists coming to the area during the school holidays.

Campers at Appledore Park near Okehampton have beaten the elements to have a great time in West Devon.

Tim Webb, who runs the Visit England five-star park with his wife Rebecca, said: ‘The season has gone very well indeed. I would say we must have had at least four times as many visitors this year than we did last year.

‘We have also had a lot of repeat customers which means that not only do people love us but they love the area. Okehampton has good places to eat, supermarkets and shops, plus the town is in the centre of Devon so lends itself to visiting other places too.’
