IT IS well known that a large rural county like Devon faces particular transport challenges.  But what do you do if lack of transport means that you can't get to much-needed health or care services?  Healthwatch, the consumer champion for health and social care, believes that everyone should be able to get to the services they need.  However, a growing volume of feedback suggests that people who rely on public transport, or patient transport, can't easily get to doctors' and hospital appointments.  Using public transport to get across the county for a morning hospital appointment can feel impossible.  For those less able, a simple trip from home to the doctors' surgery only a mile away can be a real challenge.  For others, sometimes lack of available transport means that relatives can't visit loved ones in local care homes.  In an online survey running this month, Healthwatch Devon is asking Devon's residents to tell them if they can easily get to their appointments or whether they are experiencing difficulties. Miles Sibley, executive director for Healthwatch Devon, said: 'No matter who you are or where you live, you should be able to get to the health and care services you need.' Do you rely on public or patient transport? Can you easily get to the services you need? Healthwatch Devon wants to know. By getting feedback about the transport services people use, Healthwatch Devon can see what is working well and where services need to improve.  Share your experiences by taking part in a short online survey at http://www.healthwatchdevon.co.uk/transport-health-care-services">www.healthwatchdevon.co.uk/transport-health-care-services or call 0800 5200640.
