LOCAL residents in West Devon will be able to have their say on the future of local transport at a rural transport forum in Okehampton.

Feelings have been running high on this topic with recent cutbacks in certain areas.

The forum, which has been convened by Devon County Council's Transport Co-ordination Service as part of a series of regular meetings, will take place at the Ockment Centre on Monday May 21 at 7.30pm.

An innovation this time is the chance for members of the public to book a five minute appointment to speak with a local transport operator at an open surgery before the meeting.

The forums aim to identify unmet transport needs, provide public and community transport information, encourage co-operation between community transport schemes and improve the co-ordination of transport services.

Issues discussed will include updates on the new Parish Transport Fund and the outline of events planned for Community Transport Week in September.

If you would like to book an appointment at the 'surgery', ring the Community Transport team on 01392 382123.

If the operator you wish to speak to will not be there you will have an opportunity to speak to a member of the transport team, who will pass your comments on.
