RESIDENTS of West Devon are being encouraged to attend a public meeting tonight (Thursday) and give their views on public service spending in the area.

Devon County Council has warned there are 'tough choices' to be made in the wake of the government spending review, which forced the county council to slash millions of pounds from its budget.

The meeting, which takes place in Okehampton's Charter Hall at 6.30pm, will allow residents to put their thoughts directly to John Hart, leader of Devon County Council.

Mr Hart said: 'We want everyone to have the opportunity to join this debate.

'The views, ideas and opinions of our residents matter because they pay for the services we provide and make use of our schools, care for the elderly, roads, libraries and the many other things we do.'
