A LOCAL checklist for planning applications in West Devon, aimed at streamlining the process and making it more user-friendly, is being updated.
Whether someone wants a home extension or to build a new house, the checklist is designed to save time and money by making it clear what information is needed to support a planning application.
But West Devon Borough Council wants to hear from local residents, businesses and other organisations about what they think of the new checklist before making any changes.
Cllr Christine Marsh, the council's planning committee chairman, said: 'The checklist is aimed at making life easier when it comes to submitting a planning application – saving everyone time and money.
'It can be quite a daunting experience for some people so the checklist is designed to give useable advice, making it clear exactly what information is required to support a planning application.
'Ultimately, it's about making the system less bureaucratic and avoiding applicants having to supply unnecessary information.
'I hope people will take the time to give their feedback on the new checklist.'
Some of the proposed changes include having a single document for all types of applications, arranging the checklist by topics and removing some sections entirely which are deemed no longer necessary.
The checklist includes the information required by both national and local planning policy.
