A FLOURISHING organisation which helps West Devon residents with a wide variety of chores or commitments is on the look out for extra help.

Yelvercare was established in 1998 and caters for clients in Yelverton, Dousland, Crapstone and Buckland Monachorum.

Organiser Brian Medhurst said Yelvercare has now helped some 1,400 clients in the Yelverton area.

He said: ?These are practical services, we?re not a professional scheme but we do practical work for people, whether it?s transport, shopping or dog walking ? anything to help people who are struggling, whether it?s through age or ill health.?

Although Yelvercare has about 50 volunteers on its books, Brian said more are required to ?spread the load?.

?Volunteers are not committed to anything, they sign up and do as little or as much as they wish. We actually find many of our volunteers enjoy the relationship they build up with people, they get to know people and it?s quite good fun.?

Brian said although many of Yelvercare?s clients are elderly, its services are available to anyone.

?You might be a mum at home ill in bed and you need the kids picking up from school,? said Brian.

?We try to match our volunteers up with suitable clients. We pay mileage expenses if transport?s involved ? all we really want is people?s time, we?re not wanting them to put their hands in their pockets,? he said.
