OKEHAMPTON Allotment Holders' Association will be attending Okehampton Farmers' Market on Saturday encouraging more people to have a go at growing their own fruit and vegetables.

The group will be having a stall at the event in the Charter Hall and as well as learning all the benefits of growing your own, newcomers to Okehampton and/or allotment gardening can find out how to go about renting an allotment on one of the town's three sites.

Okehampton Allotment Holders' Association is affiliated to the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners which means it has the benefit of obtaining top quality seed at discount prices, has access to specialist advice and receives a quarterly magazine full of articles on allotment gardening.

Free advice leaflets will be available on the stall and there will be a display of fresh produce currently in season.

Okehampton Farmers' Market will be celebrating 'Apple Day' on Saturday by showing off the Best of British apples and a variety of different ways of using the fruit.

Other goodies include venison and ostrich meat, cheeses, bread, farm crafts, plants and much more. The event begins at 8.30am and ends at 12.30pm.
