Hatherleigh 5

Feniton 2

HATHERLEIGH shrugged aside their midweek disappointment at Elmore with a fine performance at home to unbeaten Feniton.

They set out their intensions right from the kick off and within 20 seconds a Simon James shot was almost deflected in. From the resulting corner however, Dave Penberthy's shot was dummied and the keeper failed to stop the ball ending up in the net.

The home side dominated the first half and at times the visitors could not win the ball back. But for all their possession they failed to extend their lead until just before half-time when a harmless cross was dropped by the goalkeeper and Patrick Jones was on hand to tuck the ball away.

The second half saw Hatherleigh extend their lead within a few minutes, when Steve Cleave's cross-looped over the keeper's head and into the net.

Feniton rallied and for 20 minutes enjoyed their best spell of the game forcing Hatherleigh to defend and indeed they worried their hosts by pulling two goals back.

But Hatherleigh had the last word — they upped the play in the last quarter and Stuart Dymond made it four with a superb solo effort.

With the game safe, Hatherleigh made it five with probably the best goal of the match: a quick throw out from Jon Hayman to Steve Parsons who played the ball up to Jamie Halpin. He then worked a lovely one-two with Matty Adams before collecting the return to slide past the keeper.

This week Hatherleigh are away to Tap and Barrel.
